PROGRAMMABLE BATTERY PLATFORM

  • Ultra-high voltage conversion ratio. Constant high voltage is available regardless of the number of cells. Fewer battery cells are needed in series (connection) to reach high operating voltages: for example, direct conversion from cell to 400 VDC and ability to go over 800 VDC.
  • Real-time, programmable control of voltage amplitude and phase/frequency.
  • Cell-level control and diagnostics in real-time. Banks consisting of a few battery cells, instead of 10s and 100s, can be monitored and controlled in real-time to adjust to changes in operating conditions.
  • Horizontal/distributed power scaling instead of vertical scaling. Improve power distribution reliability and resilience by aggregating power from distributed parallel cell banks instead of long serial strings of battery cells.
  • Battery cell and chemistry independence. Aggregate power from different type of cells (e.g., different chemistry and/or different sizes) or cells in different SOH (state of health) or SOC (state of charge). Programmable constant output voltage independent of the cell’s SOH and SOC.
  • Dynamic load balancing. Dynamically distribute charging and/or discharging across an array of battery cell banks.
  • Flexible battery performance and cost optimization. Balance mix of low-cost battery cells with high performance, higher cost battery cells based on target application.

VEHICLE-INTEGRATED PHOTOVOLTAICS

  • Maximize solar energy capture. Ensures light-obstructions or inefficiencies don’t impact energy production significantly.
  • Fast maximum power point tracking (MPPT). Rapid conversion to the most efficient operating point for energy conversion under changing light and shade conditions.
  • Optimize for curved vehicle surfaces. Distributed power optimization maximizes energy harvest for each body surface angle and lighting condition.
  • Simplify power electronics. Integration of maximum power point tracking (MPPT), high-ratio voltage conversion, and diagnostics into a small module.
  • Improve reliability. Connect much fewer solar cells in series to generate the required voltage, thus mitigating the weakest cell issue in long strings of solar cells.
